Hello again!

This is a note to Bill, and/or anyone who's interested.

SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) is/are wonderful. I mean, I feel the
same energy toward SVG that I felt toward MapInfo in the 1990s. (I
started with Mapinfo in 1991!)

I like Bill's MI2SVG utility
http://www.gisnet.com/notebook/SVG_mapping.htm

But alas, I can't edit it. My ancient 4-point-something MapBasic
actually refused to install on my current computer.

Would anyone be able to simply change the word .rowid on line 278 to
.fips (and another copy for .smsa)....and recompile the programs so
that I can use the MBX?

The result (I presume!) is that I will create a state, county, and MSA
file that can be used by SVG developers, including the proper FIPS
code in each element ID.

If you would like to explore SVG, first download the Adobe viewer:
  http://www.adobe.com/svg/viewer/install/main.html
Then check these out, to see some of the really wonderful things
people are doing with it.
  http://www.carto.net/papers/svg/us_population/index.html
  http://app2.health.state.pa.us/epiqms/

If you really want to go all out, I can suggest other things to add to
the mbx. For instance, adding a
  ;stroke-linejoin:round
before all the endquotes in line 281 greatly beautifies the resulting
file. (not sure if needed other places, too)

Anyhow:

Can anyone compile and send me the mbx files with the two changes?
One for
 .fips
and one for:
 .smsa
in place of
 .rowid
(Even better would be an option in the mbx to select the field to export.)

MapBasicless, and SVG-full,
With appreciation,

Margie
