I also hope that there will be a solution for paper print (i'm so old
fashioned that i find a printed map pleasing and if it's good made aslo
beautiful)

But as i wrote, we have abdonned the printed maps for our planning.

Here is a link to the index of the proposal
http://www.miljo.viborgamt.dk/sw3780.asp

The text is in danish, but one example could be "retningslinje 16" about
forest, here is a link to the map http://www.miljo.viborgamt.dk/sw4196.asp
and if you click on the pam, the there is a link to a new page with a
interactive (MapX based) map where you can pan, zoom etc.

There is also link to combined maps, eg.
http://gis.vibamt.dk/arealinfo/ai_MapInclude.asp?Page=REGIONPLAN&GroupOn=218

Our legal plan document is now the map on the web, but we has delivered A0
plots to several municipalities and NGO's as a extra service

The plan is in the approval process and when it's approved, we will add
download in TAB and MIF, WMS and WFS access :-)

I've had good success using PDF for E-size (44 x 34 in) plots by
designing the maps for 300 dpi resolution. As long as you plan for a lower
resolution your maps still look reasonably good, and generating hard copy
plots is no problem.

The development of PDF as an output medium is the right idea I think, and
the hardware and software necessary to support large, high-res hard cpoy
output will improve.

So you don't need a hard copy plot after all?
