Are you able to address mapinfo direct with these software limitations? I agree that they are all painful issues and incorrect results that should indeed be rectified.
It is sometimes embarrassing to recommend, instigate the inception off and support a software package (paying for ongoing support and updates I may add) when important quirks and issues like these are not addressed and rectified. Im afraid i dont know any tool that will help us. This is more critical in the Natural Breaks Method. Literally natural breaks classification scheme should pay particular attention to the gaps between clusters of values, allowing the analyst to find groupings and patterns inherent in data. What MapInfo Does (range type with method of natural breaks) will not allow the user to know the range of values that one cluster of geographical units are created, and how the clusters are distant from each other in terms of value. Where youre studying Crime, Business, Urban Planning, etc, this is certainly a piece of information you dont want to loose. Please let me know if u get some feedback Many thanks Jos Jlio -----Original Message----- From: Miguel Marques [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 23 March 2005 11:20 To: [email protected] Subject: MI-L Thematic map legend (second post) Hello, I'm sending again this post because i think it's a very important issue, not for my work only, but for everyone take the most advantage of thematic representation of data. Naturally we can correct the legend manually, but i guess it would be better with an automatic procedure. If there is any argis user also, they already have this. Obvioulsy i prefer to work with Mapinfo (since 1993). > > When creating a thematic map(range type), the > resulting legend is misspelled: Example > > 1 to 10 > 10 to 25 > > Just by loooking at the legend, we don't know were > the > 10 will be (only mapinfo users know that it's >= min > and < max) > > The right way sould be > 1 to 9 > 10 to 24 > > or > [1 to 10[ > [10 to 25[ > > Also, in the natural break method, the intervals > shouldnt be continuous.
