Hi,

Trying to manage a lot of data that our team have and was wanting to know a
little more about Metadata and whether this was the right process to use
for attaching information to each table. If not is there another way to
make notes regarding tables so that they can be referenced for future
users?

Regards,

Sarah Hooper

Sarah,
There is a strong movement in Europe and the US towards the correct structure of metadata. INSPIRE is one European initiative and ISO19115 provides a lot of information. There are countless other sources to be found on the web.
Looking at some of my documentation I read " it's development was influenced by several standards, including the FGDC and ANZLIC, but is more comprehensive than any of them."
So Australia seems to have started the trend......

The drive for all this apart form being 'a good way to do it', is data sharing and provenance. Those of us who are a bit older, will have at some time received or inherited data without any backup documentation. Come to think of it, I can't remember what I called files last week, let alone 5 years ago.

ESRI provide templates for ARCGIS but I don't know if there is a MapInfo equivalent. I am sure Bill will know.
