However I resolved the issue myself and for those interested I basically had to set up a number of Styles with variables filled at runtime depending on the number of map objects to be thematicised. I then had to divide those styles over the number of map objects to be thematicised within a do loop and If statements. The principle is pretty simple but actually getting it to work was a little more tricky. If you'd like to see the code let me know and Ill send it to you.
