Hi Rob,

Thanks for your reply. I can translate the 'spatial' data easily (FME).
But we have an xy coordinate as attribute data to go into our SQL
databases. I need to know if these coordinates change so I can update
the attribute information. Funny you should mention David, I deal with
him extensively (we contract to the CoM)

Megan,

If you just want to change your coverages to GDA, then try the NSW Land
Department FREE software tool 'Datumtranv104' which should do it all for
you. You can search the web for 'datumtran' or go to this site
http://www.icsm.gov.au/icsm/gda/datumtran_download_register.php which I
think is where we got it from. I know we downloaded it and installed it
but I can't remember where we put the original zip file. Only problem
we had with this software was that the screen resolution had to be
changed to show the entire application startup box. Apart from that it
works brilliantly. Only problem is that you have to do each coverage
individually, no batch options are available as yet.

If you have problems, maybe I can help. The NSW writers are also very
helpful. Incidently, have you tried David Hassett or John Wardrop at
City of Melbourne (John is on 9658-9345), they may have the other
translating software which does allow batching or 'whole directory'
translating. Even though they are an ESRI shop, I believe the software
is not manufacturer specific, and MCC has hundreds of coverages to
convert.

Good luck

Subject: MI-L Changing Projections

This is probably really obvious but ive got a mental block on this -
when changing projections do the 'actual' X , Y's / E, N's change or do
they stay the same but relate to a different position on the datum? Its
giving me a headache.... We've got heaps of point data with X, Y's
associated with them and they need to be changed from AGD to GDA, I need
to know if I have to do a coordinate extract as well as a reproject? I
am 90% they do change but I would love some more expert opinions.

Regards...
