Are you sure? I do it all often with version 7.8 (of course V6.5 won't, didn't since acad 2005 didn't exist then...). I even did it again this morning with 7.8 UT before writing this message...
Make sure that you have all the latest patch.. Also, I remember having problem before with files that have long names or file inside directory with also long names. Same with names with spaces or with foreign language with accent. But I didn't try it with the latest version since we have a strict policy of name of files and directories in our systems...
