Hello All:
I'm relatively new to MapInfo and have a geocoding problem.
I am trying to re-geocode a table that includes crime incidences at 10k+ full street addresses and 10k+ street intersections. The street intersections are given as, for example:
Figueroa St && 9th St
MI appears to want N,S,E,W directions for many of the intersections--which I do not have--before it will geocode these points. The above intersection, for example, will only geocode in interactive mode if I input
S Figueroa St && W 9th St
Manually testing which combinations of NS-EW work is clearly not feasible for 10k+ points.
I envision that I should be able to automate the process whereby we iterate through each of the eight possible combinations of directions and geocode the one unique solution. So, for example,
if S Figueroa St && E 9th St will not geocode
then try S Figueroa St && W 9th St, which will geocode.
Any suggestions on how to proceed? I do not have MapBasic, though I am willing to look at purchasing it. I am a reasonably proficient programmer in Java.
An alternative would be to try and apply street directions from nearby points with full addresses, and I would welcome any suggestions for a quick fix along these lines.
