All of the TAB's are just in folders on the network. No pending edits, no tables in Access or any other DAO database system. Don.

Just one thought. The worspaces we save are used by more than one person here and something that we have noticed is that when we close MapInfo without closing the tables (the X in the upper right), it causes a problem for opening them later. It seems Windows or MapInfo "thinks" the TAB files are still open by someone else and won't let you open them. Any thoughts on this? If not, I'll let it drop. The option for Open Last Used Workspace isn't a huge concern, just something that kinda bugged me on a Monday morning. Thanks Again, Don. [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: If you have a workspace open, then shut down MapInfo Pro without closing any tables (just hit X in upper right), then restart, the quickstart option to open last workspace should be active with that workspace which was just used. I think I confused you with mapinfow.wor. If your preferences are set to save this and load it on startup, you won't see it in Quickstart dialog, it'll just happen if Quickstart dialog is not loaded automatically. Sorry about that. -Bill Don Mitchell [EMAIL PROTECTED]> To [EMAIL PROTECTED], MapInfo 06/06/2005 04:48 Directionsmag PM cc Subject Re: MI-L Quick Start Dialog in MI 7.8 never displays an option for Open Last Used Workspace BILL WEMPLE!! I'm sorry, I thought I saw the email addressed from Bill Thoen. It is a Monday, so can we blame it on that. Thanks for the reply and my apologies to Bill Thoen. I had addressed an email directly to him in error, as well as to the List. I have one more question, though. You say "if you shut down without saving like above and\or have your Startup preferences set to save mapinfow.wor automatically, the option is still there". I have my Startup preferences set to save mapinfow.wor when I exit MapInfo, but the option isn't there. Am I misunderstanding you or have I maybe Set something up incorrectly with MapInfo. Thanks, Don. [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hree's what I sent earlier, pretty much: This is Working as Designed One of the features specifically designed into MI Pro 7.5 & later was to clear the last Workspace Name from memory so that it would no longer be listed when a user did File>Save Workspace again. This was done after numerous feature requests over the years form users who said it was too easy to inadvertently overwrite a workspace in MI Pro versions previous to v 7.5. In a typical scenario the user: 1. Does some useful work. 2. Saves a workspace. 3. Issues File > Close All command to wipe the slate clean. 4. Does more useful work. 5. Accidently overwrites the workspace saved in step 2, because the filename in the Save Workspace dialog defaults to the name of the last saved workspace. The solution is to "clear" the name of the last saved workspace after a Close All command is issued. Therefore the Open Last Workspace option in QuickStart dialog is no longer enabled by design when user does a Close All, Exits MI Pro and restarts since its been purposely wiped clean. ** If user does not do a File>Close All, but just exits MI Pro without saving anything, then upon restart, the Open Last Workspace option should be enabled in Quick Start with the name of the last workspace opened. So, yes, it does seem like its not useful anymore, however, if you shut down without saving like above and\or have your Startup preferences set to save mapinfow.wor automatically, the option is still there when MI Pro fires back up and you can reopen open that last saved workspace. So, we'd be reluctant to remove something that still does work in that respect. This was to prevent over-writing the workspace in MapInfo due to the name of the WOR file remaining memory when saving a new WOR. If this is the case, isn't having the option to open the last workspace in the Quick Start Dialog kind of useless. I think it should be removed if this is the way MapInfo wants to go. Personally, I never had any problems with saving over another WOR file by accident, but maybe I'm lucky here.
