Maybe this problem only occurs with a triangle ?? So if you added an extra point near one of the others and then removed it afterward MapInfo wouldn't place the centroid on the boundary.

Interestingly enough, when I buffer the region using -2 feet, the resulting buffer region looks barely different from the original, but the "centroid" actually appears near the center of the buffer. But even if it fell on the edge of the buffer, because the buffer is smaller than the original region, the buffer's centroid is still guaranteed to be inside the region. Nice solution!
