Vinesh,

When using OS MasterMap in an Oracle/MapInfo configuration you will notice a
performance hit on the basis that the data is more voluminous than you would be
used to with Land-Line. Some things to consider are:

Specification of database server - are you able to increase processing power or
provide more memory for it?

Network - A system will only ever be as fast as it's slowest component! Does
your network have good bandwidth to the clients that use the OS MasterMap data?

Tune the database - is your Oracle database as tuned as it could be? Have you
got an index on the MI_PRINX column, is the spatial indexing tuned?

Area of interest - are you asking for a reasonable amount of data in one hit?
Have you tried tweaking your zoom thresholds?

I would not be entirely surprised that you notice a difference when using OS
MasterMap, but I am surprised that you notice an impact when using Points of
Interest. This is only a points layer and so should be relatively quick when
panning and zooming, certainly much better than OS MasterMap. This leads me to
think there must be some other area you can tweak as in the suggestions above.
Have you spoken to the supplier of your Oracle data loader for advice?

Regards,

Subject: MI-L MapInfo and Oracle Spatial - Speed and Performance

MapInfo Users

We are using MapInfo Pro (v8) to access Oracle Spatial (9i/10g) tables
from our Corporate GIS server. One of the issues we are grappling with
is the slow speed and response times we are getting when accessing the
spatial tables. We have tried setting zoom layering on each of the
tables but this has had little effect in improving speed when panning
and zooming. This situation is particularly pronounced when using
Ordnance Survey Mastermap data and recently the same poor speed has been
evident when using Points of Interest data.
Is anybody in the same predicament?
Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks.

Vinny
