I have been using 3DLabs video cards with MapInfo since 2000 and they are
amazingly stable, perhaps not the fastest cards on the planet, but bomb
proof. We have three dual processor workstations using 3DLabs cards. We
have a dual PIII 866MHz running Oxygen VX1 32MB, Widlcat VP990Pro and
Wildcat VP880Pro. The wildcat VP cards are running on dual P4 2.4GHz
machines. All computers are running on Windows XP Pro. I like the
stability and quality of the 3DLabs drivers. I also have ArcGIS 8.3
installed on these machines and they work well there too.

My colleague and I at the Map Resource Centre at the Parliamentary
Library, Parliament House, Canberra use MapInfo V8 extensively (and
previously V7.8).
Last year we went to dual monitors for mapping production and had NVIDIA
installed.
For a period everything worked perfectly but then after a while, small
things caused MapInfo to freeze - move label, move between layout and
map, zoom, select object to name a few.
When MapInfo froze, this also caused all other open programs to
deteriorate to "Not Responding" status until the whole PC needed to be
shut down and re-started. This could take 15 to 20 minutes.
During this time when taskmanager/performance was displayed, the CPU
usage history showed 100% and flatlined with only 25% of memory used.
Following discussion with MapInfo's help line, we were advised that
there appeared to be conflict between MapInfo and NVIDIA and one
solution was to reduce hardware acceleration to lower settings until we
could work with MapInfo and NVIDIA without conflict. FAILED.
I am therefore wondering whether anyone has experienced a similar
conflict between NVIDIA and MAPINFO since it was mentioned in the
MapInfo-L archives circa 2003 and if so, has anyone seen or heard of a
remedy ?
I am led to believe we have the latest NVIDIA software.
