Harold,
Thanks for the reply. Since it's a one-off project, I don't want to
have to spend anything - I was hoping someone might have written
something in MapBasic that I could use.
Looks like it might be a job to show an admin person how to do (and
check the RSI insurance is current).

The .aux file is used by programs such as Leica IMAGINE and ArcGIS to store image data (much like a .tab file). The .sdw acts like a .tfw or "World File," providing the basic georeferencing without the projection info - leading to your other question.
I did about 12,000 MrSid files one time by getting a venti coffee at Starbucks (or was it two Venti Coffees???) and opening the images by 1-deg blocks (lots of mouse clicking). Sure I could have written a script that would have read the .sdw, file location, etc. and then written the .tab file from this, but I figured the number of keystrokes was probably equivalent.
Actually I think that Blue Marble Geographics has tools that can generate the
.tab files in batch.
Hope the first part was helpful...

Subject: MI-L TAB files for MrSID images
I've just been given nearly 2000 aerial images for a job we're working
on and I need to set these up for use.
I can open each one manually in MI and once the correct projection is
selected, they display fine and a .TAB file is created. However, I'd
like to avoid the tedious job of projection selection for each of the
files.
Is there a simple way a mass conversion/production of .tab files can be
done?
Also, each .sid files has an associated .sdw and .aux file. Can anyone
tell me what these are for?
Thanks
Matt
