You should create a new shape from the combined polygons:
- Select all required polygons
- Copy them into a new table using Save copy as (selection)
- Open the newly created table
- Objects -> Combine -> create a single shape
- Change display settings so they won't disrupt your map
- Select the new single shape and use the clipping technique

Good luck

Subject: MI-L clipping multiple regions......

Hello..... I have a number of polygons in a table I want to clip. When I
select just one polygon the "set clip region" option highlights and I can
clip this polygon. However when I select multiple polygons this option wont
work. Any ideas what to do?
