No 10 point bullets. We were moving off of ArcView after 10 years and
looked at both ArcGIS and MapInfo. We looked at 3 time cost parameters.
Development, stability and performance. MapInfo won on all 3 counts.
Ease of development was a landslide. So was stability. On performance,
there are some things ArcGis does better/faster/easier but they were too
few to tip the scales of even an "honorable mention" in an overall
performance comparison.

Licensing cost was a very lightly weighted 4rth parameter.

The result: We're now on MapInfo.

Subject: MI-L MapInfo v ArcGis

Dear All,

You are all a bit partisan I am sure but has anyone got say 10 bullet
points on the pros and cons of MapInfo 8 v ArcGIS 9?

Personally I would say MapInfo is more MS Office / Windows friendly,
more suited to the non GIS person who wants to do maps, more business
orientated (analyse your sales), less technical, while Arc is more
specialist, more for the techy, has more (costly) extensions, etc.

Thanks in advance,

Tim
