Hello List, For a couple of months we have been looking into a nasty little problem. We have a road network (with dangles) on which we calculate for firetrucks which truck will arrive first on a roadsegment in case of an emergency. This results in the road network with as an attribute "First truck=x". When we create a thematic map from this, it looks very nice suggesting certain areas to belong to truck x when shown as a line thematic.
(picture 1: http://www.avd-ict.nl/images/firetrucks1.jpg) For all the roadsegments we have created point objects for the centroids and created voronois. When we color these thematic based upon the same parameters, we get "unwanted" results. Islands, strange shapes, strange edges and so on (picture 2: http://www.avd-ict.nl/images/firetrucks2.jpg) I am looking for a mathematical expert that can tell me what routines we should use to create smooth and good looking polygons from the line thematic. It doesn't need to be an out of the box MapInfo solution, we have capable programmers, but we need a good method. This doesn't have to be "for free", we are willing to discuss a fee for helping us to solve this problem. Any suggestions regarding voronois are unwanted. Because everybody must agree these voronois are ugly when it comes to handling a road network... Please get in touch when you feel you might know the road to a solution!
