Yes, an "attribute" in the font file(s) is the controlling factor, plus (as
Mats says) Adobe Acrobat versions can detect that attribute and refuse to
embed the fonts into PDF files. Other PDF creating utilities may or may not
adhere to that convention or nicety.

That's modern "IP" - a great inconvenience to most of us.

I agree that it would be useful to know where freely-exchangeable fonts may
be obtained, and whether the fonts installed with various MI versions are
intended only for print-to-paper purposes. It's a fact of life these days
that PDF is the current defacto standard for document exchange.

Maybe it will change to something "Metro-like" once Windows Vista is
released.

Hi All!

I think this has something to do with certain attributes that can be off
or on in the font file.
This was a later addition to the font spec, and maybe earlier pdf engines
didn't care about it.
The thing is, I think the not-embeddable attribute has been left on, or
inadvertently set in a distant past when it did not matter.
I do not think MapInfo Corp means to block the use of map symbols as it
seems.
The attribute can be removed with a font editor and then all is cool.

Hälsning / Best regards Mats.E

MI-L Font license restrictions (was: MI-L Writing Maps to PDF)

I still think it would be very interesting to know of any licensing
restriction accompanying MapInfo fonts. And whether or not this has
changed
over versions, or whether this is something Adobe introduced in v7 ?
Anyone
with MapInfo that want to comment on this ?

The used fonts in maps / layouts are a vital part of these, without them
the
appeareance degrades significantly. And PDF output from MapInfo is not
some
dubious, shady business by any means, so it's a valid concern that's
raised
here, imho.

Hi Folks

I have just had Adobe Writer v7 installed onto my PC so I can create maps

pdf...

Every time I try to write one, the error message below comes up.

It looks like my map symbols I am using in my thematic (Map Symbols,
Filled
Circle) is Licenced to Mapinfo and I can't write it to PDF. What's that
all
about?
