The problems we were seeing were between MI translation of a table (using UT) and FME translation to shape format of the same table. MI quite correctly generated a .prj in AIRY 1830 whereas FME used AIRY 1848.
Further investigation shows that FME 2004 interprets OSGB as AIRY 1848 and FME 2005 as AIRY 1830. Unfortunately it is not an easy process to update FME scripts from 2004 format to 2005 format.
