One way would be using a raster GIS add on for MapInfo, like Vertical
Mapper (VM). Then convert your contour lines to contour point (menu in
VM), interpolation the contour point to a grid and making a point
inspection on your points. This properly world give the most accurate
result.

In the vector world you could find the nearest contour line to a given
point, and update the point with the contour data, but this would not be
as accurate as the raster way.

If you work a lot with elevation data you should get a raster add on for
MapInfo like Vertical Mapper or Engage3D

Subject: [MI-L] point elevation data

Hi all,

Please forgive an extremely inexperienced MapInfo user with a deadline
for this question.

I am trying to figure out the easiest and quickest way to get the
elevations of a series of points. I've got a contour line layer, and the
points are plotted on the map, but I can't figure out how to pull out
the elevation of each point. I'd love to figure out a query resulting in
a table with the point coordinates and their corresponding elevations.

Anyone who has a bit of time to help me would be my hero.

Thanks,
Sarah
