I've been having quite a time trying to set up linked tables in MI that
are based on tables in an Access database, after having the process
work flawlessly for a few weeks.

First, after having defined the ODBC connection to the database as
a "file" DSN rather than "system" or "user" connection, I go to the
OPEN ODBC TABLE dialog and choose the table in the Access DB, and then
(using default settings) choose a path/name for the MI .TAB and .DAT
files. When I click OK after choosing a location for the MI files, MI
crashes.

I've had a couple of successful attempts today, but mostly have been
unsuccessful. At first, I thought that the problem might have been
that the Access DB in question was in an older Access file format
(2000), because the first time I converted the DB to Access 2002, I was
able to make linked tables from it. But, the next time I tried this I
could not.

Next, I thought the problem might have been the length of the .MDB
filename, which was just over 30 characters (no spaces, no characters
other than letters & underscores), since both of the first two times I
(coincidentally) renamed the .MDB to something shorter, I was able to
define linked tables. However, since that time I've crashed MI when
trying to create linked tables from an .MDB with a shorter filename.

Field structure has remained constant in the .MDB throughout. So far I
haven't been able to discern a factor or set of factors that correspond
with either success or failure.

Has anyone run into this sort of problem, and if so, would you have any
information to share regarding the cause of the problem, as well as
potential solutions?

Thanks for any information/ideas you may have!
