Thanks for all who tried to help with my GElink problem. However it was Peter's message to Shvet that finally helped me realise and remember the common "comma problem".
As a reminder to all: Set your decimal seporatator from a comma (,) to point (.) In windows regional settings before you start Mapinfo. Otherwise GElink won't function properly. This goes for a number of other GIS programs as well.
