This sounds one of two possible issues, 1) make sure the table you wish to search has the appropriate column "Indexed". To check this, view the table structure for the table in questions and make sure the check box for "Index" is checked for your search column.
2) If the above is not the issue, it is likely that a separate MBX is running which has disabled the Ctrl+F key sequence command.
