Hi Guy,

it was actually quite simple.
Peter Horsbøll Møller answered it for me.  He reckons that my MapInfo Proviewer hasn't the ODBC support installed.  All I needed to do was copy the MIDLODBC.dll file from my copy of MapInfo 8.0 program folder to the Proviewer folder et voila, worked like a charm.

Hope this helps
good luck
cathy

Ok, I have not dealt with MI connecting to SQL Server, but I have dealt with Exponare and SQL Server.
Question, is there a connect string in the TAB file leading to the SQL Server DB? If so, does it have the user name and password embedded in it? It is possible in setting up the connection it is looking for a login indent in a different place. The full login string can be found

Or I could be full of it.
;-)

(hmm, just checked on our exponare connections and they all just say trusted_connection = True
...  maybe not much help here, but you never know.)

Would love to know the answer either way!
cheers

Subject
[MI-L] connecting mapinfo proviewer 8 to a SQL server 7 database

Hi List,

Does anyone have experience connecting to a SQL 7 database via mapinfo proviewer 8?

More specifically I have a MapInfo Professional 8.0 workspace that I would like to distribute to some of my collegues.  I have done this task simply before, but the difference this time is the database I am connecting to lives in SQL server 7 and not microsoft access.
If I open the workspace (the one that lives in SQL server 7)  in MapInfo Professional it asks for a login and a password (chosen mapinfo, mapinfo)  and all works fine.  But when i try to open the same workspace with proviewer 8 I do not get this login dialogue, I simply get an error message stating I can not open the workspace.

Does anyone have any clues how to overcome such an issue?

Thanks for your help
:) Cathy
