I also had the same problem, even with re-installation:
If MapInfo Professional opens too much temporary maps (i.e. making many
selections), many temporary files are created in a temp folder.
On my computer the folder is
C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\fj\Lokale Einstellungen\Temp
Often this folder is located here: c:\Documents and Settings\<your
name>\Local Settings\Temp\
You need to empty this Temp folder.
Currently these files are not deleted automatically. I found this message:
