After a couple of post saying it can’t
be done
I started to question if I have read the
question right
My solution below is used when printing
out a pattern overtop an aerial photo
However the only way to view a translucent
like polygon is to set the translucency on the aerial photo
Set the translucency to about 20 on to
photo
Another useful tip is set the solid fill
to a primary colour say bright green is way the effect stands out under the
aerial
A lesser green is to subtle to really be
noticed thought the aerial
Anyway this is how you do it for printing
After choosing the right pattern fill say
second row num 5 in the pattern options
untick background
then
The advanced button on the print dialog
screen
untick the option “Internal Handing
…symbols”
and print
will display a translucent like colour
overtop an aerial photo

Polygons
Yes there's away to do it.. If you have
vertical mapper.
here are the steps to follow:
1. take your polygon layer and with vertical mapper use the function:
"region to grid"
your polygon vetor file will be converted to a raster file.
2. close all
3. open your new grid file.
4. in the vertical mapper grid manager go in the tools section
5. under tools there's the "export" function.
6. Export in a tiff file the close all
7. open your new polygon_tiff.tab
8. Then you can modify the translucency of your layer.

No, there isn't a way to do this. However, you
CAN put the air photo on top and set its transparency.
Also, if needed, we have a tool that "fades" polygons" by
specified percentages (does not make them transparent, just fades the existing
colors (foreground and background) towards white.) This tool is VERY handy in
some circumstances, though not necessarily this one. Let us know if you are interested.

Is there a way to
fill a polygon with a translucent color? I don’t want a pattern
with a transparent background (what I’m using now). The only
mention of translucent color I can find in my documentation is creating a
translucent raster image, but I just want a “color wash” to use
over an aerial photo layer.
