"Tetrahedral projection" can mean one of two different things: 1. A computer graphics technique for rendering solid 3D objects on a 2d screen. The solid objects are broken into individual tetrahedrons and each tetrahedron is projected onto the screen.
2. A multisuperficial map projection. You can nest the Earth inside a polyhedron, project the Earth's surface onto the polyhedron and then unroll it. In practice, you strategically position several gnomonic projections and trim them to fit together as the faces of the polyhedron. The most famous of these is Buckminster Fuller's Dymaxion Map, which uses an icosahedron, but it will work with a tetrahedron. For the latter, which is what I suspect you actually mean, I found the following: http://www.progonos.com/furuti/MapProj/Normal/ProjInt/ProjStar/projStar.html HTH Spencer -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Simon Roy Sent: Wednesday, June 21, 2006 4:16 PM To: Mapinfo-L Subject: [MI-L] Tetrahedral projection Hi, I'm looking for information on tetrahedral projections. I did not find much on google and directionsmag... Can Anybody can help? Thank you!
