"Tetrahedral projection" can mean one of two different things:

1. A computer graphics technique for rendering solid 3D objects on a 2d
screen.  The solid objects are broken into individual tetrahedrons and each
tetrahedron is projected onto the screen.

2. A multisuperficial map projection.  You can nest the Earth inside a
polyhedron, project the Earth's surface onto the polyhedron and then unroll
it.   In practice, you strategically position several gnomonic projections
and trim them to fit together as the faces of the polyhedron.  The most
famous of these is Buckminster Fuller's Dymaxion Map, which uses an
icosahedron, but it will work with a tetrahedron.
