When I have to import DXF layers with no
projection, I usually register using the US State Plane 1983 feet. Obviously, after
registering this layer in Mapinfo, it does not plot anywhere near the actual
site location. I zoom FAR out, Select All from the imported autocad layer, and
drag the data to a topo raster map, aligning the data with a road, known data
point, etc. Not the most efficient method, but it usually works. _______________________________ Anthony Hicke, PG, CHG Project Groundwater Geologist Richard C. Slade & Associates LLC 818.506.0418 707.963.3914 818.506.1343 Fax PLEASE NOTE: The information in this email is privileged,

Does
anyone know of a way to maintain a DWG file so that it does not devolve into
all of the miscellaneous layers when importing through MI 8's UT? Additionally,
does a way exist to determine the projection that the drawing may have been
saved when it was created with AutoCad? I do not have access to AutoCad but can
use a viewer - did not know if any viewers allow for the determination of the
file's projection if it does exist. If a projection was not associated with the
DWG - what projection is recommended to use with a set of Geocoded Data (i.e.,
Radio Measurements collected with a Garmin GPS that was set to Long/Lat: WGS84)
that will be overlaid on the map. I want to minimize the warping of the DWG
file. Best regards, Frank Aaron, MSc.
