Hi Ian,

Actually someone from MapInfo replied to me directly regarding the post I placed on the list.  I have since upgraded to SpatialWare 4.8 and installed the required patch.  I was told version 4.9 will be released here sometime this autumn, but the only difference between it and version 4.8 with the patch installed is that it supports SQL Server 2005.

The license for SpatialWare now is for one computer or one CPU.  I haven't had time to delve more into this topic with MapInfo yet.  We have SpatialWare installed on the one server (single CPU) that has SQL Server.  The way I read this is anyone that uses that server for their databases in SQL Server should be able to access the it using MapInfo without any licensing issues.  However, I haven't had time to check into it more thoroughly.

Thanks for answering my post though.

Subject: RE: [MI-L] Spatialware on MapInfo 8.5

Hi Don,

MapInfo Pro 8.5 runs fine with SpatialWare 4.8 and 4.9 for SQL Server (I have tested these and use 4.8).  If you are trying to upgrade from 'MapInfo Pro for SQL Server' to 'MapInfo Pro' and 'SpatialWare', then you will probably need to talk to your account manager.  I'm not sure what version of SpatialWare was bundled with the 'MI Pro for SQL Server' (probably 4.6), but the licensing of SpatialWare has changed in 4.8 and 4.9.

MapInfo has removed MI Pro for SQL Server from the market, and reduced the minimum licence count on SpatialWare, so you will need to follow this up with your account manager.  You may need to upgrade your SpatialWare as well as your MapInfo Pro, or you may just need a SpatialWare license file, but your account manager will be able to sort this out for you.

Hope this helps.

Cheers Ian

Subject: [MI-L] Spatialware on MapInfo 8.5

Hi All,

Has anyone had any problems installing MapInfo 8.5 and getting SpatialWare to work.  I just upgraded from MapInfo 7.8 with SQL Server (which was working fine), to MapInfo 8.5.  Now I get a message "You are not licensed for SpatialWare on this server" whenever I open MapInfo.  Then I can open tables with attribute data from SQL Server but no spatial objects (such as lines, points....) will open.  The fact that it was working fine before tells me I had SpatialWare licensed on the server before the upgrade.

I've tried to re-install "MapInfo Pro for SQL Server" but the message that I need MapInfo 7.0 or later to install it.  Last time I checked, isn't 8.5 later than 7.0!!!

The section Installing MapInfo 8.5 of the manual doesn't say anything about any special steps for installing with SQL Server and SpatialWare.

Any one know what I'm missing.
