Hi Christine, I agree with you that the most likely problems is the record length issue. One way to deal with it would be to open the DBF file related to the
shape file in a program like Excel, and then delete columns you don’t
care about (and you could verify that there are lots of large columns in there
as well). If you have access to other utilities to resize the columns may be
good too. Our FME product (of which the UT in MapInfo is a subset) could also be
used to give you control over the output schema – the Workbench in FME
