G'day Norm,

Look back through the archives for similar problems regarding the NVidia
graphics card - there is quite a bit of discussion on it.

My experience shows that MapInfo and NVidia do not gel. All our problems,
including one that you have described, disappeared when we changed the card
for a Matrox card.
I am not advocating Matrox solely, it's just that Matrox worked in our old
PCs and when we swapped the NVidia with Matrox with our new PCs - goodbye
problems. The problems you describe are directly (in my experience)
related to the NVidia card.

Have you just updated the graphics card or PC? - as the problem should have
been occurring straight away. We were using Mapinfo 7.8/7.5 at the time of
the problem. We are now using 8.0 with Matrox and all is good.

HTH
Regards
Greg.

Are you running a nVidia graphics card or integrated video?

I have been having some problems with MI 8.5 freezing up. When this occurs
and I go into Task Manager, the CPU usage by MAPINFO.EXE is a constant 98%.
Not surprisingly all other programs become basically unusable due to the
lag. I am running MI on a Dell laptop with Windows XP Professional,
Version 2002, Service Pack 2. The laptop has 1 GB of RAM. The problem
seems to be becoming more frequent as well, with a crash occurring after
adding only 3 lines to a blank table with no other software running.

Any ideas on this?

Norm
