Dear List, Recently there was some traffic concerned with the display of transparent raster images. There was also some very quick and good responce from MapInfo on that matter, so they seem not to ignore the topic. However, from the response I concluded, that MapInfo views that raster display is not a very important issue for most MapInfo users, and therefore development efforts would go in other directions. This of course does make sense, and is a company's right to do. I just wonder, if raster display is really such a low priority feature. Speaking of myself, I would certainly appreciate to display my vector map themes together with a topographical reference (scanned map), and using transparent black & white rasters would give the nicest output. Therefore I would like to ask the list community the following questions, which can be directed to my address first, and then I would sum: 1.) How often are scanned raster images used for loacation reference in conjunction with vector based map themes in the usual practice of MapInfo users ? (Especially in the US ?). 2.) Who would view flawless transparent raster display as an important benefit for their mapping purposes ? 3.) If raster display (for location reference only not for image analysis) is important for a mapping project, should someone then rather use another software package than MapInfo, and if so ... which one ? I am aware that MapInfo's purpose is not raster GIS. I am not interested in analysing raster images, only to have them displayed together with my map data, so that both can show up nicely.
