I don't know specifically if you are on or off the list right now
(to find out, I have to do the same thing you have to do, which
I'll explain anon). But I've had to get a little more aggressive
about clearing broken addresses off the list, so we lose one or
two every day (but we always seem to gain three or four, too).
There are too many addresses now to tolerate the slowdown caused
by the list server trying and retrying to send mail to broken
addresses (if it takes a minute to time out on a bad address and
there are just 10 screwed-up addresses out of about 1500
subscribers on a list that gnereates 20-40 messages a day, well
that means that 10 bad addresses can delay mail delivery to up to
quite a bit of time). But what's worse is that broken addresses
cause mail to be bounced back into my mailbox, and I think 200 or
more bounced mails in my mailbox every day is quite enough for
anyone.
Therefore if you suddenly find out you're not getting mail, you
can check the list by sending email to majordomo and in the body
of the mail put:
who mapinfo-L
This will cause the server to mail you back a list of all the
addresses in MapInfo-L. Search it, and if you're not on it, you
most likely have a server problem. If you don't know what
happened, then alert me to the situation, and resubscribe. Then
if your server misbehaves, and I know you erally are there
waiting for mail, I'll forward you the bounced mail and you can
take the problem to your system wizards and let them wiz over it.
Er... fix it, I mean. Y'know... have them do what wizards are
supposed to do.
Of course, if you ARE still on the list and not getting mail,
then there is another sort of problem altogether. See your local
wizard about this too.
