News Release-Susan Jampoler, of Leesburg, Virginia, is the new Executive Director for the University Consortium of Geographic Information Science (UCGIS). Her responsibilities as director will began February 1, 1999, as she replaced outgoing director Tom Palmerlee. Susan received an M.S. in Geographic and Cartographic Sciences in 1989 from George Mason University, and has experience both in GIS education and GIS application development. She is the founder and president of GeoKnowledge, Inc., providing GIS training and expertise to government agencies and industry on a customized basis. Concurrently, she is the designor and coordinator of the North Virginia Community College GIS certificate program, and has authored one unit of the NCGIA Core Curriculum for Technical Programs. Prior to her work with GeoKnowledge, Susan worked as a GIS analyst and cartographer for MRJ Solutions. Susan has a long history of involvement in the GIS community. She has spoken at numerous conferences on GIS education, was recognized by ESRI in 1998 as an outstanding teacher in their Desktop Teaching Program, and has published articles on using geographic information systems and remote sensing technologies to solve geographic problems.
