Dear all,

A big Thank You to you all for your replies. Briefly, the answer was to use
the "run command" statement. A special thanks to David Haycraft, of
Information Analysis Assocs, Australia, for a very useful reply - it made me
feel better to learn that I had encountered an undocumented feature of
MapBasic!

Cheers again,
Pete

Subject: MI Set Map Statement
Date: 16 February 1999 13:06

Dear All,
I am presently stuck with the following problem, it is starting to drive me
nuts, and I am sure I am missing something embarrassingly obvious! I would

appreciate any help you can give.

In Mapbasic/Mapinfo 5 I am trying to use the Set Map Statement to label a
layer where the layer_id is a string variable (the value previously assigned

by a buttonpad choice).

Thus:

dim s_Label_layer as string
s_Label_layer = "Map_Ref"

Set Map Layer "My_Layer" Label Font ("Arial",256,8,0,16777215) Line Simple
Position Center With s_Label_layer Auto On

... but this returns the map labelled with "Map_Ref" and examining the label

settings reveals the label has been set to _var_.

How can I get it to pass the variable - help!

Cheers,
Pete, Ordnance Survey, UK.
