I recently converted a USGS SDTS format DEM (7.5') to a Mapinfo table and compared it to a contour map produced from USGS SDTS DLG data for the same 7.5' quad. I noted that there was not a good correspondence between the elevations of the contours and the elevations of the DEM points. What's going on here? Is it a projection problem? Both the DLG and DEM datasets use the same projection for there horizontal reference as far as I could determine.
