I suggest that you create a temp table with all of the points and
the desired line. And after, for each point, create a small circular buffer,
enlarge it progressivly till the buffer touch the line ("objectA partly
within objectB" ... geographic operator of select statement). The radius of
the buffer when complete will be the distance. The variation of this radius
is dependant of the error you want...

Objet: MI minimum point distance from a line
Hello all,
I have a bunch of point objects in a point table in I need
to find the mimimum distance from each point to a line object in a line
table. Is there an easy way to do this? Also there used to be a spot on the
mapinfo site which had various tech tips has this functionaliy been deleted
from the site? Can I find it somewhere else on the Internet?
thanks
