The company I work for, GeoComm Corp. in St. Cloud, MN, sells an enhanced
911 mapping application. The app displays a map of a given county - when a
dispatcher receives an E911 call, the map will automatically zoom to the
location the call originated from and display a red arrow. The app will
also display information about who is calling, what the correct emergency
responders are (fire, law, ambulance, 1st responders) based on the
geographic area the call originates from, and lat long coords for
dispatching flight for life choppers. Dispatchers can also locate
emergencies by typing in addresses or coordinates. The application can also
handle cellular E911 calls by highlighting a cellular area from which a cell
call originates (when the necessary E911 infrastructure is in place to
provide cell tower location on incoming cell calls) based on cellular
coverage maps. The app will eventually locate actual coordinates of cell
E911 calls when the technology gets here (this must be done by a certain
date according to government mandate, but the technology for locating cell
E911 calls is still being developed - TDOA vs. other cellular location
methods). Also, the application has the ability to automatically fax
incident maps to the appropriate law, fire, and medical agencies. The
application supports arial photography / satellite imagery. Finally the
application has an AVL add on for real time emergency vehicle tracking.
This system is intended as a tool for locating emergency incidents, and
rapidly dispatching the correct emergency responders to the correct
location. Given the above features, the application can also be used to
coordinate search and rescue operations. GeoComm also provides mapping,
addressing, and GPS field data gathering services - the Geo side of GeoComm.
The Comm side offers voice / data telephone and radio network consulting.
Let me know if you would like additional information about our software
products.
