Thank you for the compliment John.

I have tried to use Adobe's PostScript driver but the install program had a
bug. I contacted Adobe TechSupport and somebody else has logged the same
problem. The new version (v5.1) went up on their web site a few days ago,
overwriting the old one (v5.0). V5 is no longer available, period. Don't be
fooled by their website which has apparent pointers to both versions - they
both link to the same file.

[I think there is much to be said for the GNU/Linux template for
development: a known stable or previous release tree and a development or
new release tree, with both always available.]

I have tried using HP's HPGL/RTL driver (with the 2500) and the artifacts do
not appear. The print quality is so much poorer that it is not a viable
solution. (From my experience with the 650c, I know that I can bring the RTL
quality up to acceptability, however it would mean rebuilding and tweaking a
*lot* of data.) The spool files I used will go up on the website for other
people to play with if they like.

WRT MI version numbers in the workspace file: (Why the numbers "400" for
version 4.5?) I snatched this from the "Re: MI What is !edit_version 450"
thread and I suspect it may be more applicable:

    |I haven't tried your code to verify that this is what you are
    |encountering, but MI Pro does write !edit_version 450 into
    |tables that have objects with more than 32k nodes. It is

Either way, I'll be experimenting with both potential work-arounds.

Thank you for your suggestions,

-matt
