hi all ... i sent out a message about north arrows for maps, and got the following: 1) use the symbol picker, and pick "mapinfo arrows". these are fonts, so they should scale well with the map. downside, there are not many great choices (imho), and if north isn't up on the map (like an albers projection), you'll have to manually rotate the symbol to make it look right. (thanks to: Fran Peck, Peoria Unified School District; and others) 2) here's a better way. there is a free layer (file arrows.exe) available from mapinfo, at the following url (good as of 1999/03/08): http://www.mapinfo.com/solutions_and_services/free/miprou.html copy this file to a directory of your choice, and execute it. a layer called "arrows" will then be there. open this layer up into its own map window , and then select the arrow you want using the selection tool. do a "copy", then move to your map window, or layout, and "paste" (best, to the "cosmetic" layer, made editable). the arrow becomes a map object, which changes directions (the way it should) if you change projections. (thanks to: Rick Branchaud, Ottawa, and Jason Adam, Toronto) 3) commercial product: - www.avenza.com : "MAPublisher product has a North arrow function in Illustrator and also imports MI files and much more stuff too." (Ted Florence: [EMAIL PROTECTED]) --- what a great list. ask a question, and by gum, it'll be answered. thanks all. bruce simonson, alaska department of fish and game. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe from this list, send e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and put "unsubscribe MAPINFO-L" in the message body, or contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
