The drawing order in MapInfo has always been a thorn in my side given the
work that we do here. I often use MapInfo to make ranged point maps of
areas we are working in. The value in the thematic is usually Total grains
of X mineral in a soil sample. In a densely sampled area, it is
advantageous to have the highest results on top of the lower, because you
can't see them all anyways (it's mainly for pattern/trend analysis).
Our work-around is to query the table, Sorting ASCending on the field we're
interested in, into a new query (call it Tot_Asc). Add that Tot_Asc table
as a new layer in the MapWindow (turn off visibility for the original
table). Then you make your thematic on that table. Thankfully, the newer
version of MI saves those selection sets with the workspace. Previously we
had to re-query and make thematic everytime we wanted to use a workspace.
Sam Kome was right about Save Copy As not always keeping the sorted order.
It will look ok in the browser, but the draw order seldom changes.
There's my 2 cents,
