Hello,
As far as visualisation is intended, the best bet is VRML (like 3D analyst
for ESRI), but if your concern is about the calculations of height
differential between two DEMs (one could be a floor - real easy DEM ...) VM
should easyly do the trick;
I put the necessary code for DEM visualisation using VRML (ascii grid to
VRML) on the list last year, that provided a crude visualisation. If you
need more you can contact me, I know how to build pipes, houses, and even
do real time mobile tracking and visualisation in 3D.
Anyway, I'm working now on a 3D oriented GIS project, and you'll learn more
on the list in a few months (hopefully...).

Objet: MI Floating 3D objects
Hi all,
Anyone out there have experience representing independent, floating 3D
objects over a surface? I'm talking about a tube or rectangular
corridor in the air in this case. I'm hoping to define floor, ceiling,
and sides, and generate an object with a volume, correctly positioned
over a real world surface. From there I'd want to calculate distances
from object to surface.
I'm going to see how far Vertical Mapper will take me, but it won't be
all the way. This is a stretch for MI, I know, but anyone care to
comment? MapInfo add-ons? Other software? (Is this something doable
through AV+Spatial Analyst+3D Analyst? If so it would be an awfully
expensive tube:)
Thanks,
Will Mitchell
