We had the same problem once with a particular printer (never with our
HP750 though) - it was with coloured boxes in a legend and it turned out to
be that the printer handled "rectangles" differently to "polygons" (they
are actually different objects in MI also). The printed patterns/colours
were nothing like what we had set - even stranger, when they were printed
again, the patterns/colours changed once more.
After replacing the rectangles with polygons of the same shape, the problem
was worked around.
