I also agree that checking the task manager in windows NT will generally
show whether an instance of MapInfo has been created and this may point
to a problem with the do method.

However, I have recently found while using MapInfo 5.0 and VB 6 that
MapInfo does not always appear in processes in task manager.

Here's what I've seen:

If MapInfo terminates while a table has unsaved edits, a save changes
dialog appears with choices such as discard all, discard, close, save
etc.

I have found that if close is selected at that point that MapInfow.exe
does not appear in the processes tab of windows NT task manager.

When the program is started again, messsage appears saying that the file
that appeared in the above dialog is in use. A reboot takes care of
that problem.
