I know how the labeling works in MapInfo 4+, I know that you can switch the labels on and off in the Layer control.
But I want the labels on a separate layer, so that I can add and delete and change the labels as needs be.
With the way I understand the labeling in MapInfo 4 is that it re-labels the window every time you zoom or pan. With the result that you aren't assured that each street or object has got a label (which is a necessity in my case), because of overlapping, and it sometimes the labels looks untidy.

The problem I have with the Labels created in MapInfo 3, and the Labeler.mbx program supplied with MapInfo 4+ is that the labels is a fixed size.  So when I'm zooming in and out the labels go bigger and smaller.

So what I'm aiming for is a layer with labels similar to the labels created in MapInfo 4 but on a separate layer.

Thank you for the replies so far though

displays off and labels on.

Rudi,

Perhaps the Labeler.MBX that comes with standard mapinfo (in the tools
directory) will do what you need.

Subject: MI Lables

Hiya MapInfo Users

I know that Mapinfo1/2/3 used to save labels to a layer, with the problem
that they were only viewable/printable at the scale at which they were
created. But from Mapinfo 4 onwards the labels are linked directly to the
layer being labeled, and they keep the size specified regardless of the zoom
state you view them at.

Now I have a problem I'm sure a lot of users experience.

I want to create a label layer, with scalable labels, and I want it on a
separate layer, so that the labels can be moved and maintained as a separate
layer.

Any help regarding this issue would be much appreciated
Thank you
Rudi
