The MapTools "RasTools" software for working with aerial images is pretty much
the "standard" software for doing this task in MapInfo. RasTools removes the
perspective, lens error, and relief distortion from an aerial photo to produce
a "plan view" image (that is, an image that appears as if you are have a view
that is directly above the scene and at a great altitude. Or in other words,
transforming the image so that it has constant scale throughout.). RasTools
contains both a least-squares inverse perspective projection transformation
and a TIN-adjustment (rubbersheeting) transformation. RasTools comes in two
flavors: one for MapInfo and another for ArcView.
One of the most popular applications of RasTools is in precision agriculture.
Dan Wiens' "AgriTrak Zone Management Technology" software uses RasTools
software to do image transformation.
