According to Chapin and Kaiser, Urban Land Use Planning, here's a little run down on
land use category colors for maps:
Residential
Low density-yellow
Medium density-orange
High Density- brown
Retail businesses-red
Trans, util. comm.- ultramarine
Industry and related uses-indigo blue
Wholesale and related uses-purple
Public builds and open spaces-green
Vacant or nonurban use-uncolored
Institutional buildings and areas-gray
