Canadian cartophiles may find this of interest (originally posted
on MAPS-L) Anyone know if the boundaries for this new territory
are available in digitial form?

Subject: Change your maps!

April 1 1999 and the Canadian map changes forever as the new
territory
makes its mark. Nunavut is mostly made up from the new lands
revealed by
global warming, as the ice caps have receded (literally 'land
from
nowhere').

This new territory has created a major problem for many Canadian
businesses who publish an annual calendar. WE have had 10
provinces and 2
territories since the annexation of Newfoundland in 1949. For 50
years,
every calendar has had one monthly photo (or map) for each
province/territory. Now we have one too many. A classic Canadian
dilemna.
