Hello everyone,

I've been in a GIS position for almost 3 years now. I started out
using Mapinfo and now I program MapBasic and MapX, as well as learning other
systems like ArcInfo and AutoCAD. The company I am in has recently cut our
GIS staffing by 75% in a company of over 200 employess. Keep in mind, no
actual GIS department existed. The few individuals, including myself, who
have been in the organization since it was created to provide mapping
services have developed several applications for tracking and maintaining
company geographic information. The group has recently been moved from
department to department( 3 in the last 6 months, the last being IS), not
being able to fit in and now are running into roadblocks for developing more
efficient tools for our every changing business plan. We have come to the
conclusion that in order to continue to support the internal customers in
the proper manner, we must evolve into our own department, equivalent to IS,
Operations, or Marketing in order to reach our goals for the company.

I ask anyone with knowledge of implement and constructing a GIS department
plan to please give information to guide us in presenting this to upper
management.

Thanks to all,
Dion Duran
