The Software Council of the Agricultural Electronics Association will be hosting an TSL Implementation Workshop for our new TSL specification. The workshop will be held on Monday and Tuesday, Feb 8th and 9th.

TSL stands for Transfer Support Layer. It is a specification that is based upon the XML (Extended Markup Language) syntax. It is designed to described the content and format of a static or dynamic data transfer between management computers. The specification accommodates a variety of "encoding types", so that the TSL file truly does become a support file. The actual data being transferred can be in shapefile, mid/mif, or ascii formats. If appropriate, new encoding types can be added to the specification to accommodate data that may be published in other formats.

The workshop is designed to help hardware companies and soil test labs learn more about the TSL wrapper, and how they might add it to their existing transfers in order to make it easier for the industry to move toward the common format that I see so frequently requested by posters on this site.

In addition to full coverage of the TSL syntax and the presentation of detailed examples, AGRIS will introduce some freeware software tools that they have built to help facilitate the implementation of the TSL protocol.

Please feel free to visit the A*E*A Software Council web site to learn more about this workshop and to download the specification for TSL, the soil testing dictionary, and the yield data dictionary.
