There is very little free data outside the US. You will almost certainly need to pay 
for good quality 
data for the UK and Ireland. You may not find a single data set which covers both 
countries 
unless. you resort to European coverage, at the expense of scale/detail. Also, be 
aware than most 
"UK" data sets actually only cover Great Britain (ie. excluding Northern Ireland). So, 
make sure 
that, whatever data set(s) you choose, you get coverage of NI.

Take a look at The Data Consultancy's web site at http:///www.datasets.com The DC is a 
former 
partner now owned by MapInfo and heads up their data effort in Europe. The AA 
(Automobile 
Association) data sets may have just what you need.
